Joshua David Matthews is an award-winning filmmaker living in Texas. He earned his MFA in Film and Television from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a concentration in Screenwriting and Directing. His films have won accolades such as Best of Fest, Best Drama, and Director’s Award.

Joshua’s thesis film, DAWN, screened at several film festivals including the Cannes Short Film Corner and the prestigious CAMERIMAGE in Poland. After graduating, Joshua was commissioned to film ELIAS, a short documentary on Dr. Elias Ghanem, the “Doctor to the Stars”. In 2018, Joshua was given permission to follow and document Operation-Identification, a group of forensic anthropologists who identify and repatriate the remains of migrants who pass away while crossing the boarder. OP-ID is now available to watch on Amazon Prime.

Additionally, his screenplay, BONESEED, won Third Place for Best Unproduced Short Screenplay at FilmQuest (2022), was a Finalist in ScreenCraft’s Short Screenplay Competition (2022), a Semi-Finalist in both the HollyShorts Film Festival (2022) and Killer Shorts Horror Screenplay Competition (2020), and was a Quarterfinalist in both FLIMATICS’s Short Screenplay Competition (2021) and Short Horror Competition (2021). LAST MILE, a feature-length horror/thriller, was a Quarterfinalist in The Script Lab’s Screenplay Competition. His short screenplay, THE CONFESSION, was a Killer Shorts Quarterfinalist in 2021, and is slated to be filmed as part of a new horror anthology feature.

In between directing films and writing screenplays, Joshua produces marketing videos for various brands. A job that has taken him across the country and into the jungles in Ecuador. He is also a fan of dive bars, Lone Star beer, and is an avid hiker and camper.
